First or Final Principles

Philosophy can be a strange subject, often the debates taking place have almost no application to the real world. Karl Marx is famous as saying 'philosophers have only interpreted the world, the point is to change it'. But philosophers have changed the world, just the world of thinking rather than doing, and this is how I see the role of the philosopher, to encourage a greater understanding. Within my theory there are two parts to the mind, the understanding, that hold all the general theories and laws and principles and then there is the judgement which works through the senses, analyzing the physical appearance and making the particular changes that are needed. Philosophy, as I see it, needs to bridge that gap, and it is a gap, quite a large gap, holding a number of universal beliefs needs to be converted into positive choices. To be able to understand eternal truths and at the same time make ethical decisions is the role of philosophy.

The very first philosophers wanted to know about what things were made of, because knowing this would help them understand creation and destruction. If we can hold beliefs about how the infinite connects with the finite then we are some way to understanding our own minds, and the affect on our judgement would be immense. So many people make judgements without a reasonable understanding, maybe they are racist or sexist or just plain ignorant, bad judgement causes a lot of unnecessary suffering. Then there is the other side, where there is bad understanding, some people find it hard to absorb principles of existence, to be able to debate the first and final principles of reality, to really look into their own mind and make connections.

Surely the final principle of life is to make reality a better place, but where do we start with the first principle? For me it is the separation of the infinite, without duality there can be no creation and with creation comes destruction. From there we can reach the human responsibility

to improve the world through positive creation and negative destruction. Those who understand the positivity of their creations and at the same time understands the limits of creation, they are the ones who make the most out of their choices, who are able to provide support for those suffering. Those who are good at earning power are not always the ones who understand the needs of the poor, surely power is to help people improve their own lives, and surely the final principle is how to provide a society that helps all reach their potential. All of these beliefs involve the connection between the understanding, the limitless of potential, and the judgement, the limits of the actual. Knowing what we should do, rather than just what we can do.
