Philosophy and practical ability

The translation of the word 'philosophy' is 'love of wisdom', but how much is wisdom worth in the modern world? There is little doubt to me that some of the most interesting psychiatric staff were the ones who were interested in philosophy, but that is probably just my preference, although they have very good reputations. When one looks at the current batch of politicians and thinks of Plato's idea of the philosopher King, they do not live up to that ideology. For me, philosophy has created the world we live in, it must be the most influential branch of knowledge, however it has become a hugely academical pursuit and needs to return to its home within wisdom.

To get far in this world one needs ability, the ability to communicate articulately, to be creative in ones ideas and to have knowledge, and judgment, of the world we live in. There is the famous Marxist quote, 'philosopher's have only interpreted the world, the point is to change it', I disagree, I believe philosophers have changed it. I see it as big changes to the manner that our beliefs are judged, the way in which we realize new ideas and channel our conscious, the philosophers have done that. What is needed, to my mind, is a strong link between the abstract and the practical, maybe to teach philosophy to young children. When I had my first breakdown, and breakthrough, I wanted to teach everyone the principles of philosophy start with young children and everyone will reach their potential through the wisdom of philosophy.

Religion can be thought of as a strong link between the universal and the particulars, it has massive ability to influence people's psyche. I find it hard to believe a prophet will rise up in the modern world, so it is up to philosophy to provide the next step in human evolution. I've said before that a world where everyone believes the same thing is considered boring. But to me, a universal connections of minds means greater creativity, not to mention the security it offers, to be able to sense each others minds would seem strange at first, but telepathy would allow greater understanding of what's good for everyone, not just the individual. The perfect world is not just a slow evolution, it takes revolution and the premise for me is that we start to see our connection is more than just verbal that we can share thoughts beyond the physical. Maybe, first we need a connection between what is true for everyone and what is true for the person, maybe if philosophy can offer both the grand narrative and the personal narrative, more people will join those who think a little deeper.
