Compassionate Mind

The question I wish to address in this piece is, is the practice of a compassionate mind similar to the construct of duty ethics. To my mind duty ethics means putting other people ahead of yourself, meaning you will do things for other people, even at the expense of your own life. Equally compassionate mind means feeling empathy for all living creatures, wanting them to succeed and be successful. We hope that children growing up in these modern times will follow these ideas and create a society that puts other people happiness before their own. Wouldn't it be amazing if the poor were no longer poor, if everyone no matter of ability lived a profitable life. One would want all people to fulfill their potential, become better educated, more able and maybe greater creativity.

I am sure it is the dream of many people, to live in a classless society, where ownership is shared equally and people don't want to hold onto huge mounts of money, money works best when invested. Maybe it is the role of the government to make laws that prevent greater wealth and poorer wealth, laws that make ownership equal. I'm sure that I am talking about socialism but I'm not scared of having these utopian visions. Could wealthy businessmen reduce their income and increase the income of the poor, it seems to me perfectly possible and it would be their duty to make sure other succeed, even if it means they have less themselves. Also the compassionate mind would want the best for others, but does that mean at their own cost?

The future must hold onto these notions of equality, they have been talked about since the dawn of time, my own belief is that religion need to find a place for these ideas. There need to be a spiritual organization that holds the first principle of morality is looking after the less able, the less well off. Christianity contains some of these ideas but does not politicize it enough, we want a religion that demands a caring, compassionate, dutiful society. If we take pieces of all the major religions we find enough content to generate a new religion, but it takes a prophet to launch one. I work in the social care sector and I have been cared for by support workers, the aim is to achieve greater things than you can on your own, through support I have become more empowered to live the life I want. If only the top bracket of our society could reach out compassionately and offer help to all the people below.
